Summary of the M&E Operations Manager role:
The M&E Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of electrical and mechanical systems within a hospital setting. This role involves managing maintenance, repairs, installations, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The individual will lead a team of technicians and engineers to maintain the efficient operation of critical hospital infrastructure.
M&E Operations Manager Deliverables / Outcomes (include but are not limited to):
Leadership & Management:
Provide effective leadership to the electrical and mechanical operations team.
Delegate tasks and responsibilities to team members, ensuring efficient operation.
Conduct regular team meetings to discuss priorities, issues, and improvements.
Maintenance & Repairs:
Plan and schedule preventive maintenance for all electrical and mechanical systems.
Coordinate with maintenance technicians to carry out repairs promptly and effectively.
Respond to emergency breakdowns and ensure rapid resolution to minimize disruption.
Installation & Upgrades
Oversee the installation of new electrical and mechanical equipment and systems.
Evaluate equipment specifications and ensure compatibility with hospital requirements.
Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized installations or upgrades.
Compliance & Safety:
Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations and standards.
Conduct regular inspections of electrical and mechanical systems to identify potential hazards.
Implement corrective actions to address safety deficiencies and prevent accidents.
Budget Management:
Develop and manage the departmental budget, ensuring optimal utilization of resources.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to reduce operational expenses.
Monitor expenses related to maintenance, repairs, and equipment purchases.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment inventory.
Generate reports on the performance of electrical and mechanical systems.
Provide regular updates to hospital management regarding departmental activities and performance metrics.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant experiences.
Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within a healthcare or hospital environment.
Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems.
Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor staff to achieve departmental goals.
Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards, such as NHS Estates guidance, HTM (Health Technical Memorandum), and CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) codes.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Proficiency in budget management and financial analysis.
Problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, maintenance management systems, and other relevant software applications.
Certification or licensure in relevant technical areas may be preferred.
