Hiring An FM Consultant

How do you make sure you’re getting the best people?

The Head of Change and Transition of a major FM services provider organisation was sharing his thoughts over people placements around the FM arena with our Founder Director. He said;

" Ulf, during our time together, we agreed that people are not ‘good’ or ‘bad’, they are either well or not well placed. Placing people well is becoming even more important for interim managers and consultants where results need to be achieved within weeks or months and with often unbudgeted costs".

There has been an increase in the number of businesses turning to independent FM consultants or outsourcing to fill their additional demands, complete projects, meet short-term objectives, or procure specialised expertise and valuable insights. An FM consultant is usually recruited for a specific short period and does not count as an employee — they are a contractor(s) or specialists involved in completing a particular time-framed project.

Once you’ve decided to hire a consultant, you will need to do everything to choose the right fit. To get the “fit” between your consultant and your organisation right is vital to set the board and dice spinning up for success.

Each project is different and unique. With many talented and highly specialised consultants out there who can drive your most critical initiatives, it’s only through a careful assessment that you’ll be able to ensure the best fit essential to your project’s successful outcome. One of the main reasons projects fail to reach their potential is a disconnect between how the project is initiated and successfully managed. Hence having the above conversations will help scout candidates best suited to your goals.
