We Are His Elves…

Two white pictogram representing elves with red christmas hat and holdinfg the placcard board that says- We are his Elves

Have you been good? Have you been great?

Go to bed early, And don’t stay up late

Tonight is the eve, Of your favourite day

Go to sleep quickly, St. Nick’s on his sleigh

You are my pride, You are my joy

It’s now time for dreams, My beautiful boy

Eyes closed tightly, Breathing is deep

I’m sneaking off now, As you are asleep

Time to wrap presents, No time for a pause

If only you knew, There’s no Santa Clause

A glass of sherry, A slurp of beer

I’ve finished the gifts, And Christmas is near

I drift off to dreamland, All’s calm and serene

In the distance I see, A wintry scene

Snow fills the skies, Of this faraway land

But a sense of warmth, Radiates from my hand

I’ve no idea how, Or from where he came

But I sense already, That I know his name

With white beard flowing, And coat red as brick

This cheery old fellow, It must be Saint Nick

I’m dreaming I know, Too much sherry for me

They can’t be true, These things that I see

“This is no dream, I am very real

You people grow up, And forget how to feel”

You are an illusion, A trick of my mind

But I love this vision, Of one who’s so kind

But I know the truth, As adults we know

There’s no truth to the tale, Of the man from the snow

Us grown-ups buy presents, We wrap them ourselves

It’s no kind of magic, And there are no elves

No flying reindeer, No nose glowing bright

No jolly old man, In the sky late at night

What happened then, I remember it well

A wonderous truth, He began to tell

“You buy the presents, From the shop shelves

Then wrap them because, You are my elves”

“You are my workers, My ears and my eyes

When your work is done, I come from the skies”

“How could I know, Who’s been good, who’s been bad?

And how could I tell, Which gifts should be had?”

“Only the parents, Of the wonderful children

Know which presents, Should really be given”

“So there is your truth, It’s no Christmas fable

As true and as real as, The babe in the stable”

“So what do I do? What purpose have I?

When I visit each home, From up in the sky”

“I bring the magic, I bring the joy

I bring the smiles, To each girl and boy”

“Take this from me, My present to you

Remember me well, As I do you”

“The one who had nothing, The one who would pray

“Please let him come, The man with the sleigh” ”

“Take this with you, This hat, crimson red

Off you go now and, Back to your bed”

“Back to your home, To the ones that you keep

All peaceful and quiet, Everyone now asleep”

With that I awake, It is Christmas morn

Celebration of when, The child was born

I slowly remember, The fanciful sight

Of the cheery old man, And my dreams in the night

I know he’s not real, I know it’s not right

But a wonderful thought, That somehow he might

I arise from my bed, All cosy and snug

To see my family, And give them a hug

But wait, something strange, And wait, what is that?

On top of my head, It’s the crimson red hat

It wasn’t a dream, No, no, he is real!

A huge sense of warmth, I begin to feel

So there is the truth, We must remember ourselves

Santa is real, And we are his elves!

Merry Christmas with jingle bells and santa
